Hey Dan! I loved Doki Doki Literature Club so much that I’ve felt inspired recently to try to read more books in the evening instead of looking at screens! I’ve even tried my hand at poetry because of you! (Not very good at it though – but I’m reading up on technique to try to get better)
My question; there is a lot of meaningful poetry in DDLC. Which character was your favourite to write for? Which poems did you personally like the most?
It makes me really happy to hear that DDLC has inspired you to try new, productive things. I really hope you find it fulfilling for yourself.
My favorite poem is Sayori's Bottles poem. But I felt the most strongly when writing for Natsuki and Yuri, because their poems help tell the "side story" of the two very different people finding out they have more in common than they thought. So instead of just thinking about the characters' own feelings, I wrote them thinking about how each of them would feel when sharing with each other. Natsuki and Yuri really deserve each other's friendship.
